In the fourth book in the Charles Bloom Murder Mystery series… Gallup, New Mexico, near the Navajo Reservation, is home base for an exclusive group of turquoise dealers known as stone men. When the most successful among them, “the President,” stumbles onto the greatest turquoise find in decades, unfortunately for him it’s on Navajoland and he’s not the only one who wants a piece of the claim. The President will do anything to protect his newfound turquoise mine, but there are international forces at play and they have no intention of letting a stone man from Gallup dictate the terms for valuable mineral rights. Simultaneously, Santa Fe’s Indian arts dealers are facing the bleak prospect of their sales being undercut by fake Navajo jewelry threatening to overrun the market. Gallery owner Charles Bloom is targeted by the FBI to become an undercover informant, his recent marriage to Rachael Yellowhorse making him the perfect patsy for the job. Little does Bloom know that his coerced involvement to help crack this case may wreck his marriage and inadvertently put his entire family in danger. A trained assassin now has Bloom’s family in his crosshairs. It’s a race to see who can stake the strongest claim to the secrets hidden on the desert floor of the Navajo Reservation. The losers will pay with their lives and the winner.

I strongly suspect Mr. Sublette is a good writer. I have enjoyed several of his stories. However, he needs an editor/reader who can spell, can understand grammar, and at least will do basic research on weapons, if he is going to discuss them with any authority.A good Spell-Check would be a smart investment.
'Then' is an adverb that describes time, a sequential event, a place in order. 'Than' is a simple comparative; this rather THAN that. Seems basic but it is butchered in this story.
A Glock is a semi-auto hand gun. Cartridges/bullets for this weapon are held in a 'magazine'. A Glock is not a revolver; revolvers have cylinders. Glocks are notorious for their non existent safety.
As for turquoise, ask your Trader friends again about grading stones...it is a well established science. Maybe a little fuller understanding of the role of matrix, spiderwebbing, and pure stone would have added a little authenticity.
The story line was interesting. I liked the international intrigue angle but a little more character development would have made the story much larger.
The 'kill-off' at the conclusion was a little to patient/expected; the set-up begged for a fuller, more tense ending.

Stone Men A Charles Bloom Murder Mystery edition by Mark Sublette Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
The author is hitting his stride with this Bloom story. Good local color on the Navajo reservation and an introduction to the rock hound business and its pitfalls. The conclusion was a bit forced but it is a good read.
Mark Sublette writesa wonderfully taut story. I like that he is using the same characters (except for the bad guys) throughout he series. I enjoyed it very much
While there are times the writing seems a bit uneven, these books provide a wealth of information into gallery owners and the challenges they face in New Mexico. They also provide descriptions and photos of the awesome landscapes! I enjoy them for that reason alone!
Stone men is much like the truth of this dying bunch of sometimes loveable, but hated at times get it at any cost people. Having grown up around many individuals like these guys I could name a few who would duplicate the cast in this very entertaining Novel. Super read!
FOR ANYONE WHO READS A BOOK BECAUSE OF THE AUTHOR OR FOR THE STORY LINE, ALL MARK SUBLETTE BOOKS ARE A WONDERFUL RIDE. IT IS AN EDUCATION IN NATIVE AMERICAN ARTS OF ALL GENRE. THE STORY IS ENGROSSING AND MOVES WITH GREAT EASE, HOWEVER, I'VE LEARNED MORE ABOUT NATIVE AMERICAN WEAVING, JEWELRY MAKING AND A LOT ABOUT TURQUOISE AND ITS' MANY VARIATIONS. I JUST LOVE THE ESSENCE OF THE CHARACTERS. I'LL LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT EPISODE IN A LONG LINE OF CHARLES BLOOM MYSTERIES.
Mark Sublette does a wonderful job of creating a mystery set in the world of turquoise silversmithing. I'm not that knowledgeable about such jewelry but I found the way the author created such a suspenseful story on the topic was fantastic. Of course, Charlie Bloom and his wife Rachel were stupendous characters once again.
Stone men, the seekers of fine turquoise stones; are a little known part of the Indian jewelry scene in the Southwest. Charlie Bloom, art gallery owner, gets dragged into investigating a conspiracy to sell fake Navajo jewelry. Good turquoise but non-Native work. The reason for flooding the market with cheap jewelry was pretty arcane. I think the motivation to ruin the Toadalena economy should have come earlier in the book than it did. I was confused by the outside influence on the area and the reason for hiding the top of the line new turquoise. Lots of stone men clutter the plot.
Charle is gang pressed by a really unlikeable, unethical FBI agent. He's timid at the beginning of the book, but by the climax he's found his spine. Who is a bad guy remains up in the air until the last few pages. Well written book and good plot building kept me reading.
Dine' culture is well represented and explained. I've got a big collection of Navajo jewelry. I have Navajo friends, I lived in Arizona, this book was good enough that I knew the places and people.
The "who done it" was quite vague; the "Why done it"
